How To Overcome ‘Everything All At Once’ Anxiety

Updated: Oct 23, 2023

Overcoming anxiety

I hope you had a chance to download my Seasonal Review and had an opportunity to reflect on recent experiences. Perhaps you discovered something useful, or are contemplating a new path to pursue? If so, the next question is where and how to begin? Some of us lead busy, complicated lives, and starting new things is often a real challenge. This is when staying conscious is crucial.

Recently, I found myself feeling overwhelmed by the size of a project I wanted to undertake - a seemingly endless list of interconnected things to do. I took sometime to reflect on how to overcome this anxiety and noticed the underlying unconscious belief "I can't do everything" was holding me back.

I decided to question this belief and realised that, of course, I can’t do everything! When our minds get hold of a belief like this, ‘it’ believes that we have to do ‘everything’ and ‘everything now’. As I saw what was happening, I became aware that I needed to define what "everything" really meant. So I began drafting a plan outlining what I needed to accomplish, the time I had available each day, and a reasonable timeframe to get everything done. With it came a sense of relief knowing that I was being reasonable, and the plan naturally unfolded within an extended, yet achievable timeframe.

It’s important to create a roadmap for our goals:

  • Start by questioning any beliefs that are holding you back.

  • Pay attention to your feelings, usually they are there for a reason.

  • Allow yourself sufficient time.

  • Breakdown down your ‘to do list’ into manageable tasks.

Don't let the size of the goal intimidate you. Small, achievable steps will take you further than big leaps. And remember, you have the power to turn your dreams into reality, one small step at a time.
